Unfortunately, I see the world is full of cynicism! :(
Not just a stranger, but even a close family member or a close friend can be very cynical.
I am not a very out spoken person who would talk openly about a lot of things, but now that I am married I try to open up conversations with this new family and the relatives. Having had a chat with distant relative in my new family few weeks back, the call ended up making me sad in some way. Though the conversation was mostly the general, how are you? What are you doing? And stuff like that, having remembered this last talk about her husband who doesn't help her around in the house hold chors, I asked her in a jovial way if her husband has started helping her (not minding her husband who was also a participant in this conversation) now that she is carrying a big bump. She shunned my question in such a way making me feel shameful for asking the question. Eventually she abruptly cut the call while i was going to say something.
There were some strangers disguised as friends who had made me feel bad before, but this was the worst i have come across with a family member. I feel very insecure to talk freely to some of these people who have become my relatives

It's easy to have misunderstandings with new in-laws until you get to know each other better. And if she is expecting, maybe she's a little extra sensitive right now. Hopefully it all improves with time! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought so too, may be because she is pregnant, she might have mood changes too. i amn't taking it seriously anymore. thanks for your nice words :)
DeleteNamaste....
ReplyDeleteWe have to work at not being cynical. People can be hard, they can be unkind, they can be ruthless and brutal but they can also be kind and thoughtful and it is that one has to hold onto and not let it wash away in the tide of human's unfriendliness
peace.

thank you so much. I feel relieved when i see such motivating comments on my blog! we definitely ought to work on not being cynical no matter how bad the other person might be.
DeleteIt depends. When she mentioned earlier about hubby not being helpful,he was perhaps not there. When you put your question jokingly when he was also participating in the conversation, the circumstances were different. It is a minor thing best laughed away by that lady.In life we frequently come up with such faux pas!!
ReplyDeleteTrue. At that moment I felt bad, but not anymore. But get to learn a lot about different people from such little incidents.
DeleteThis post kind of reminded me of myself :) Guess we both are super sensitive and even the slightest change in tone upsets us. I have faced such situations before from close friends and family alike - they being rude and not feeling guilty about it. Makes you wonder if the fault is in you or in the others. But if you understand situations from their point of view, it makes you feel a bit better probably by knowing people can't be so bad after all :)
